Margate has always offered a very traditional seaside charm with lovely sandy beaches, donkey rides and themeparks. The donkey rides and themepark are no more, but instead there are quaint sweet shops and individual clothes boutiques, cupcake café, ice-creams, a world-class art gallery and much more.
Along the seafront are fish and chip shops, seafood stalls and cafés right by the beach for a first class view along the golden sands - some of the finest and cleanest in the region. Margate also offers intriguing mysteries such as the Shell Grotto - an amazing underground shell-lined structure and a host of exciting activities with coastal walks, 18-hole mini-golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool, sports centre and bowling alley.
For those looking for culture and history, Margate offers museums, theatres, the Margate Winter Gardens offers everything from big-name pop acts to ballet or English pantomime. Festivals here include an amazing summer carnival, the Margate Masters volleyball tournament, jazz festivals, kite festivals and fireworks throughout the year.
Within a short distance there are additional places to visit such as Quex Park Museum, historic castles such as Dover, Deal or Walmer, Ramsgate's Royal Harbour, the medieval city of Canterbury with cathedral, castle and museums, zoos, Roman ruins and more.
I want to thank you for the really good organization in both the school and the homestay accommodation for my daughter while she was attending the English-on-Sea course in Margate. The main goal of attending the course was to acquire knowledge of the English language, and I am very satisfied with the results. I want to express my gratitude for your personal efforts and your commitment to make her feel welcome and at home. I also praise the overall organization and the extracurricular activities. We hope that we will contact you again in the future! Monika from Croatia (Testimonial written by Dario, Monika’s father).
